NYC Sports Fans: A Spoiled Bunch

Even Spike Is Spoiled...although, being a Knicks fan does mean he's suffered too.

Even Spike is spoiled...although, being a Knicks fan does mean he's suffered too.

New York City is considered the center of the universe.  Ask any native New Yorker, they’ll be all too happy to tell you.  It is a city where you can do almost anything, see almost anything, eat almost anything, and meet almost anyone.  Choices are abundant here.  And, for the most part, that is a great opportunity.

Until it comes to sports.

Let’s look at all the teams in the New York Metro area.  For sake of argument, the New York Metro area will consist of teams that are geographically located within New York City (all five boroughs), on Long Island, and in the eastern New Jersey area (the Meadowlands, specifically).   Baseball fans side with either the New York Yankees or the New York Mets.  Football fans can pick between the New York Giants or the New York Jets (neither of which play in NY, mind you).  Hockey fans hit the trifecta with the New York Rangers, New York Islanders and the New Jersey Devils.  And let’s not forget about basketball fans who can either root for the New York Knicks or the New Jersey (for now) Nets (expected to move to Brooklyn for 2012-2013 season).

A True C's Fan

Boston CelticsFrom: Rye man ends journey to New York, wins Celtics tickets

Before you claim total C’s fandom, you have to walk a mile (or 218) in these guys shoes!

Five days and 218 miles later, Rye resident Tyler McGill made it to New York City after what had been a weeklong journey for what is currently the most sought-after sports tickets in the nation.

Rye man walking to NYC for Celtics tickets
Having made a bet with friends to walk from TD Garden in Boston to New York City for a ticket to each Celtics home game in the NBA finals, the 27-year-old’s quest for floor seats on the parquet floor concluded late Sunday night at the doorsteps of his pal’s Manhattan apartment.

Riviera : Broken Sounds from Chicago, IL

Riviera : Broken Sounds from Chicago, IL

It’s funny the things you run into on the net.  The other day, I was digging through my CD collection and came across a CD that I had burned for me a few years ago.  It was my old college roommate’s first studio effort with his band – Sugar Maple Voodoo.  The CD was titled Jibe.  Anyway, I went and ‘googled’ them on the web and found this page – MixedWire: News.  It had all of SMV’s first album studio stuff as well as their long-lost, never fully publicized studio album on it.  Interesting.  Anyway, long story short, I found my old roommate through Friendster and got to talk to him.  Come to find out, he’s out in Chicago, he’s married, and he’s playing with this band Riviera.  I bought their new CD At The End Of The American Century… on iTunes.  It was a $10 investment in his future.  How could I not…  Not bad stuff.  You can hear the Wilco influence, but there’s also flairs of everything from Tom Petty to The Grateful Dead to the Stones.  Interesting stuff.  If you like the alt-country/rock type music, then you’d probably like it.

The Forced Vacation Begins

So, I’m being forced to take some time off over this next week. I can’t say I’m very happy about it, but if it’s going to help our bottom line – especially given our stock price activity as of late (hint: It’s been going down faster than I can bomb an icy East Coast slope) – then I’m game for it. The weekend has started out pretty good so far. I went to Creek with Brent and snowboarded for a half day. Pretty good day – I hit up some nice table tops and even nailed the rails (note: a few of the rails and hits nailed me back).
